Devil’s Food Cake

Ingredients

  • 0.666 cup shortening
  • 2.0 cups sugar
  • 2.25 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1.0 tsp salt
  • 1.0 tsp baking soda
  • 1.0 tsp baking powder
  • 1.25 cups milk
  • 3.0 eggs
  • 3.0 oz unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 1.0 tsp red food coloring

Directions

  • 1. Stir shortening to soften.
  • 2. Sift in dry ingredients.
  • 3. Add 1/2 cup milk, mix until flour is dampened, beat 2 minutes.
  • 4. Add remaining milk, eggs, chocolate, and food coloring, beat 2 minutes.
  • 5. Pour into 2 paper-lined 9x1.5” pans.
  • 6. Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes.
