Ingredients
- 0.5 cup shortening
- 2.0 eggs, beaten
- 1.0 cup boiling water
- 1.0 cup evaporated milk
- 2.0 tsp lemon flavoring
- 3.0 pkgs yeast
- 0.5 cup warm water
- 8.5 cups flour
- 0.5 tsp nutmeg
- 0.5 cup sugar
- 2.0 tsp salt
Directions
- 1. Combine shortening and boiling water.
- 2. Stir in milk and lemon flavoring.
- 3. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
- 4. Add yeast mixture to shortening mixture when lukewarm.
- 5. Mix in remaining ingredients, knead 5 minutes.
- 6. Let rest 10 minutes.
- 7. Roll out 1/4” thick, cut into 1x6” strips.
- 8. Let rise 1 hour.
- 9. Fry at 375°F until light brown.
