Bohemian Kolaches

Ingredients

  • 1.0 cup scalded milk
  • 0.5 cup lukewarm water
  • 0.5 cup sweet cream
  • 2.0 eggs
  • 0.5 cup sugar
  • 0.25 cup soft shortening
  • 1.0 tsp salt
  • 4.5 cups flour
  • 2.0 cakes soft yeast

Directions

  • 1. Soften yeast in water for 5 minutes.
  • 2. Add to cooled milk and cream with other ingredients.
  • 3. Knead until smooth.
  • 4. Let rise until doubled.
  • 5. Mix down and let rise again.
  • 6. Shape into 2-inch balls.
  • 7. Grease with butter and let rise 15 minutes.
  • 8. Make dents in centers and fill with fruit filling.
  • 9. Let rise again.
  • 10. Brush with beaten egg.
  • 11. Bake at 375°F for 15-20 minutes.
