
Savory bread stuffing with gravy

Ingredients
- 16.0 cups toasted bread, torn
- 1.0 cup chopped celery
- 1.5 cups chopped chicken (optional)
- 2.5 cups chicken broth
- 1.0 cup butter
- 1.0 cup chopped onion
- 1.0 tsp salt
- 1.0 tsp pepper
- 1.5 tsp poultry seasoning
- 2.0 tsp ground sage
- 0.75 can chicken broth (for basting)
- 1.5 tsp corn starch (for basting)
Directions
- 1. Sauté onion and celery in butter.
- 2. Mix with bread, chicken, broth, salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, and sage until dry yet moist.
- 3. Transfer to a 6-quart slow cooker and cook at medium setting (2½ notch) for 3 hours, stirring once halfway.
- 4. For basting, thicken ¾ can chicken broth with corn starch to gravy consistency.
- 5. Baste dressing occasionally with gravy, adding more broth if dry.
