Tart and crunchy cherry dessert

Ingredients

  • 0.25 tsp salt (for pastry)
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed (for pastry)
  • 1.0 cup all-purpose flour (for pastry)
  • 0.5 cup butter (for pastry)
  • 1.0 cup sugar (for filling)
  • 0.25 cup cornstarch (for filling)
  • 1.0 cup cherry juice (for filling)
  • 4.0 cups pitted tart red cherries
  • 1.5 cups quick-cooking rolled oats (for topping)
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed (for topping)
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
  • 5.0 tbsp butter, melted (for topping)

Directions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • 2. Mix salt, sugar, flour, and butter for pastry, press into an 11x7 inch dish.
  • 3. Bake pastry for 15 minutes.
  • 4. Combine sugar and cornstarch for filling, stir in cherry juice.
  • 5. Cook filling until thick, fold in cherries.
  • 6. Pour filling over baked crust.
  • 7. Mix oats, brown sugar, flour, and melted butter for topping, sprinkle over filling.
  • 8. Bake 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
