Ginger Bars

Ingredients

  • 1.0 cup shortening
  • 1.0 cup sugar
  • 2.0 eggs
  • 1.0 cup water
  • 0.5 cup molasses
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.0 tsp baking soda
  • 1.0 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp ground cloves
  • 0.5 tsp ground ginger
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1.0 amount powdered sugar (optional)

Directions

  • 1. Cream shortening and sugar.
  • 2. Add eggs and beat well.
  • 3. Beat in water and molasses.
  • 4. Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and salt.
  • 5. Add to molasses mixture and mix well.
  • 6. Spread into a greased 15” x 10” x 1” pan.
  • 7. Bake at 350°F for 20-22 minutes.
  • 8. Cool.
  • 9. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
