Apple Dumplings

Whole apples wrapped in pastry

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups flour
  • 0.5 cup shortening
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 6.0 medium apples
  • 1.0 cup sugar
  • 1.0 tbsp butter
  • 1.0 tsp cinnamon
  • 2.0 cups water (for sauce)

Directions

  • 1. Mix flour, shortening, salt, and water into a dough.
  • 2. Roll dough 1/8 inch thick, cut into 4-inch squares.
  • 3. Peel and core apples, place one on each square.
  • 4. Fill apple centers with sugar, dot with butter, sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • 5. Wrap dough around apples, place in a baking dish.
  • 6. Boil sugar, butter, and water for 3 minutes, pour over apples.
  • 7. Bake at 375°F for 40 minutes until apples are done.
