Ingredients

  • 1.0 cup shortening
  • 1.0 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 2.0 eggs, beaten
  • 1.0 tsp baking soda
  • 1.0 cup chopped dates
  • 3.0 cups flour
  • 1.0 cup nutmeats
  • 4.0 tbsp boiling water

Directions

  • 1. Pour boiling water over chopped dates, let stand.
  • 2. Cream shortening, brown sugar, and white sugar.
  • 3. Add eggs, beat well.
  • 4. Mix in salt, baking soda, and flour.
  • 5. Stir in nuts and dates.
  • 6. Drop by spoonfuls onto a cookie sheet.
  • 7. Bake at 375°F for 10-12 minutes.
